At this time, although all Second Career Assistance Network (SCAN) seminars are postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Veterans & Transitioning Military still need the information from these seminars. H2H has put together some of the questions they get asked whenever they speak to Serving Military & Veterans. If you have any more questions, send them to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will share them here. Please include your name and contact info.
What does this cost me?
There is no cost to either a veteran, reservist or employer to register and participate in Helmets to Hardhats.
Can I transfer any skills I learned in the military to the construction industry?
Yes! Once you choose the trade you are interested in joining they will work with you to decide if your military training can be credited to your apprenticeship certification.
What does it mean earn while you learn?
Once you commence an apprenticeship program and start working you receive wages and benefits just like every other trades person on the jobsite according to the collective agreement.
Is there any age limit to join the construction?
NO! You must understand though that an apprenticeship program can go from 3 to 5 years. You need to keep that in consideration when you choose a trade.
When can I join the program?
You can join the program any time you want. You don’t have to wait to be released from the CAF earlier the better.
Earlier the better, why?
That gives to us the time to discuss with you and see what can be done to better prepare you to face your new chalenges.
